Yes this weekend is Halloween and while most are at parties and dressing up, I will be remembering my cousin Ashley. They say time heals all wounds, but I'm not so sure. While I don't cry as often, I am still sad and sometimes mad that she is no longer here. But she is always in my heart and memory.
I am closest to my mom's side of the family. Ashley is my cousin on that side, she is the daughter of Laura and Billy and sister to Ben. Ashley was a beautiful girl, both inside and out. I always looked forward to spending time with her during Christmas and the summer, we always had so much fun! The last time I saw her was at our cousin's Brooke's wedding (the picture is from that night). We had such a great time and I am so thankful for that! It would only be a few months later that the accident would happen. I spoke to Ashley the week, we talked about sports, school, her boyfriend and me coming down to Alabama for Thanksgiving. It was a great conversation and I am forever thankful that I spoke with her. That Thanksgiving trip would never happen. I still remember the phone call that changed my family forever, it was 8 years ago Saturday but I remember it like it was yesterday.
I feel lucky knowing that Ashley is watching over me and that I will see her again someday, but today and tomorrow, as many other days, I miss her.
