Everyone knows who Brian Boitano is in the skating world and even outside of it. Figure skating was such a large part of my life for so many years. Before school, after school, weekends...
I met some great people because of it and famous too! Brian Boitano was one of those. He is an amazing performer. I believe I met him during one of the trips to the Spectrum for an ice show that somehow we managed to get backstage after the show was done. I remember being very shy around him (hard to believe - but yes I was), I mean come on the man won an Olympic gold medal - pretty amazing. I do remember what he told me though, he said always work hard but above all have fun! I couldnt have been more than 10 years old so that advice didn't really sink in until I was older and decided skating just was not fun anymore for me. I then decided that I needed to focus on other things. My sister ran into Brian when she lived in San Francisco and she told him about me, not like he remembers every single person he has ever met. But he did signed a picture for me wishing me luck in college! Some athletes (and I have met my fair share) are not the most gracious when it comes to fans, but Brian Boitano does not fall into that category - he is one of the best!
